Do kids need to exercise?
Exercise is important for Kids! Kids who are active are healthier than kids who are not active. It is recommended that kids get 60 minutes of exercise such as walking every day.
Active kids:
- Are stronger and can exercise longer
- Have less body fat
- Have a lower chance of getting heart disease or diabetes
- Have stronger bones
- Are less anxious
- Are happier
What about adults?
It is recommended that adults get 75 to 150 minutes of exercise per week depending on how hard it is. 2 ½ hours of walking will get you there. The good news is that you can walk for as little as 10 minutes at a time to get your weekly benefit.
If you exercise more, the benefit is even better.
And If I'm Over 65?
The same recommendation for all adults is still for you – just as long as you can do it. If you can’t, do what you can. Some activity is better than none. Exercise such as walking is safe for almost everyone, and the health benefits far outweigh the risks.
If you’re concerned about a chronic condition such as heart disease, you may wish to talk to your doctor or clinic before you begin to exercise.
